Listening to the Wisdom of the Body

A Mind–Body–Spirit Perspective on Left- and Right-Side Pain

At Infinite Hope Counseling, we hold a foundational belief: The body carries wisdom.

Clients often come to therapy asking why pain or tension keeps showing up in the same place—sometimes on one side of the body again and again. While medical evaluation is always important, many people discover that even after tests or treatment, the pain continues.

From a mind–body–spirit perspective, this can be an invitation—not a failure of healing, but a deeper layer of it.

Rather than asking “What’s wrong with me?” we gently explore: “What might my body be asking for?”

The Body as a Sacred Messenger

Psychology, neuroscience, and ancient wisdom traditions all point to the same truth:
Our lived experiences shape the nervous system and the body.

Stress, trauma, unexpressed emotion, and relational wounds do not exist only in the mind. They are held in breath patterns, muscle tension, posture, and pain. Somatic counseling helps clients listen to these signals with curiosity rather than judgment.

Energetic and spiritual language can offer another doorway—one that honors meaning, symbolism, and the soul’s experience of the body.

Right-Side Pain: The Sacred Work of Action and Boundaries

In many energetic traditions, the right side of the body is associated with:

    • Action and forward movement
    • Responsibility and leadership
    • Boundaries and protection
    • Direction, will, and agency
    • Anger as a protective life force

When right-side pain appears, it often coincides with seasons of:

    • Over-responsibility or burnout
    • Pressure to stay strong or productive
    • Difficulty saying no
    • Suppressed anger or frustration

Spiritually, this pain may reflect strength that has been overextended—the soul asking for recalibration rather than collapse.

In counseling, we explore how to shift from effort rooted in obligation to action rooted in alignment.

Left-Side Pain: The Sacred Work of Receiving and Feeling

The left side of the body is often associated with:

    • Emotional processing
    • Intuition and inner knowing
    • Receptivity and receiving support
    • Nurturing and connection
    • Vulnerability and softness

Left-side pain may arise when:

    • Emotions are held instead of felt
    • Care is given without replenishment
    • Support feels unsafe or unfamiliar
    • Grief, sadness, or tenderness are unacknowledged

From a spiritual lens, this pain is not weakness—it is a call back to tenderness, rest, and connection.

Therapeutic work focuses on safety, nervous system regulation, and permission to receive.

Healing as Integration, Not Fixing

At Infinite Hope Counseling, healing is not about fixing what is broken.
It is about listening, integrating, and restoring balance.

Psychology provides insight and understanding.
Somatic practices bring regulation and embodiment.
Spiritual and energetic frameworks offer meaning and soul-level context.

Together, they support healing that is grounded, compassionate, and whole.

A Closing Invitation

Pain is not a punishment.
It is often a prayer the body is offering on your behalf.

Whether pain appears on the left or right side, it may be asking for:

    • Clearer boundaries
    • Honest expression
    • Rest and nourishment
    • Aligned action
    • Deeper compassion for yourself

When the body is listened to with reverence, healing unfolds naturally.
